How Long a CCTV Drain Survey Takes

The majority of our drain survey customers want to know how long the drain survey will take. To answer this question, there are a number of simple factors that will determine the length of time a drain survey will take.

The Basic On-Site Time

A typical inspection for a single drain run at a residential property would take around 30-60 minutes to complete from start to finish. This would include setting up the equipment, inspecting the drain and then recovering the camera from the drain.

How Pipe Length Affects Things

A longer length of pipe will need longer to complete a survey. Although a typical drain for a domestic property will be between 10-25m long, this can on occasion extend to a boundary and a shared junction with other properties. This will increase the time required for a survey, approximately 15-20 minutes for every additional length of pipe.

Blockages and Debris Slow the Camera

If there is a partial blockage, excessive silt or tree root intrusion then the operator may need to work carefully around the affected section or retrace their steps. This can take an additional 20-40 minutes, depending on the severity of the blockage. In extreme cases of silt filled pipes they may be required to use a drain jetting service to clear the blockage prior to a CCTV drain survey taking place.

How Much Pipework Is Actually Yours

Check before you book whether all of the drainage at your property is your responsibility to maintain and survey. By keeping the survey to the pipes that you are responsible for, it will save time and money in the long run. The surveyor will confirm the scope of work with you prior to attending the site for a CCTV Drain Survey Nottingham.
