Xbox One vs Xbox One S: These are the differences

Xbox One vs Xbox One S

Microsoft was much talked about in his presentation of E3 2016: not only was there room for -much here- and good games, but we alsoknow the two major projectsthat the company kept up its sleeve: theXbox One Sand the future consoleProject Scorpiofrom that for the moment very few details are known.

The Xbox One S is definitely a very striking iteration of the current console Microsoft, and improves both the format and the performance of the current model and do well with a significant price reduction. These are the differences between the Xbox One we all know and love andthe Xbox One S and we will want to know soon.

We like incremental improvements

Obviously, the design is one of the highlights of the Xbox One S, which manages toreduce by 40% the size of the original model. We do not know the specific dimensions, but itis likely that weight reduction is not as significant if we consider that the power supply is integrated.

The color white dominates a really attractive for this new console Microsoft aspect, but at the bottom wefind the support of the console is designed with a material with black finishes in which for example the infrared sensor is hidden. Another new feature: the ability toplace itverticallyusing an optional bracket.

Although some of the specifications of the new console from Microsoft are not yet clear seems logical that the reduction in size and the striking integration of the power supply due to theuse of a CPU and a GPU which are equivalent in performance perhaps slightly superiors but mostly they are more efficient and benefit from a more modern manufacturing process.

The support content 4K (HDR) is a relevant novelty that however we must clarify again: the consoleis not ready so we can play 4K, but for the console interface (Dashboard) and contents video (streaming or via the Blu-ray drive) can UHD resolutions.

Such content benefit fromnew HDMI 2.0a portthat provides the bandwidth needed to deliver that capacity, and as we say itis possible that the integrated SoC has also improved in this area.

HDMI input and support Kinect remains

The surprises come in an area in which itwas unclear whether Microsoft would keep its bet: the center console as multimedia experience.Although not mentioned itonly in the presentation, the Xbox One S maintains the HDMI IN port that allows usto connect any device to it and that the Xbox One S to behave like a “gateway” with which control that device.

In that role is particularly important newinfrared port built-in Xbox One there isa socket for connecting an IR sensor, but in the new model that sensor is integrated and can facilitate the role of the Xbox One S as thecenter of that experience content.

Equally important though is not mentioned- is thesupport of Kinect, the peripheral that has been unfortunately forgotten but which certainlycanstill use the Xbox One S. Thatsright: in this case will not have a specific port for this peripheral, and we willneedan adapterto use it in the new console from Microsoft via the USB ports on this model.
