Are you going to buy a device with Bluetooth connectivity? These are the differences between all the versions

When we go to buy a wireless device many times we do not look at some details that may be interesting. It happens to all of us that for example we see on the label, Bluetooth … and we do not stop to know what is the version they have of the popular protocol.

And is that since its inception, the blue connection has seen a number of versions pass, being the latest Bluetooth 5.0, a standard that is already being included in devices such as smartphones and tablets. But do we know what the differences are compared to its predecessor, the Bluetooth 4.0 protocol?

Bluetooth Versions

Bluetooth 1.0: The first version used and already in disuse, it offered enough communication problems between devices. This version was updated after 1.1 (year 2002) and 1.2 (year 2003) so that they improved the connection speed and enabled the possibility to detect other devices with Bluetooth. It achieved a transmission rate of approximately 721 kbps.

Bluetooth 2.0: Increased the transmission speed up to 2.1 Mbits / s, was launched in 2004 and its main novelty, in addition to compatibility with version 1.2, was the lower power consumption offered.

Updates came in the form of version 2.1 (year 2007), which improved the connection with other devices and in which was included the Secure Simple Pairing (SSP) that improved the pairing between Bluetooth devices, increasing security and range of transmissions.

Bluetooth 3.0: It was launched in 2009 and thanks to the HS technology the transmission speed was improved up to 24 Mbit / s and the HS (High Speed) function was added to improve the transfer of packets containing more data, in case of video and music files. With this version it was also possible to reduce the latency between user action and data transmission.

Bluetooth 4.0: Launched in 2010, BLE (Bluetooth Low Energy) technology appears for the first time. The objective was to minimize consumption in devices that had a lower battery. In addition, updated versions 4.1 and 4.2 came with which transfer rates were achieved from 25 Mbps to 32 Mbps.

Bluetooth 5.0: It is the last iteration of the wireless and input technology highlighted by the optimization of the BLE (Bluetooth Low Energy), which is present in the Bluetooth 5.0 protocol. An important improvement, especially if we consider that we talk about devices with integrated batteries in which consumption is something fundamental.

In addition and thanks to the use of Bluetooth 5.0 the range that could be obtained with a model that uses Bluetooth 4.0 is increased up to 4 times. We can be further away from the source of sound without it supposes to experience cuts, unwanted noises or a high latency. But the improvement that can get the most attention is that Bluetooth 5.0 allows us to send content from different devices at the same time.
